Two legends of the 2000s rock scene, California alt rock and nu metal trailblazers Papa Roach and Chicago punk and melodic hardcore staple Rise Against are currently in the midst of a major co-headlining tour they’ve dubbed the Rise of the Roach Tour, which brings them to nearby Franklin on Oct. 1, at FirstBank Amphitheater. Sweetening the deal, metalcore and post-hardcore favorites Underoath– legends in their own right- will open the show, and tickets are still available right here!
Though, back in the day, Papa Roach and Rise Against probably wouldn’t haven’t been the most logical pairing for a shared tour (the former being more apart of the nu metal scene, the later more in the punk world, though both have a history playing fests like Warped Tour), the millennial and Gen X nostalgia (and Gen Z rediscovery) for that era of rock has made the genre cliques a lot less rigid than they were 20 years ago.
Formed in 1993 in Vacaville, California, Papa Roach hit it big with their sophomore LP and major label debut, Infest, in 2000, going quadruple platinum and scoring mega hits like “Last Resort,” notching even more widespread success with 2002 followup Lovehatetragedy, and remaining a major fixture in the hard rock and nu metal scene dominating mainstream rock at the turn of the millennium.
Formed in ’99, in Chicago, Rise Against found their own breakout success a few years later, with third album and major label debut Siren Song of the Counter Culture in 2004, and followup The Sufferer & the Witness in 2006, rising up in the punk scene that would dominate the mid to late 2000s, and largely supplant nu metal as the dominant trend in rock for the rest of the decade.
And, of course Underoath, who land more on the hardcore and metalcore end of the spectrum, broke out around the same time as Rise Against, with 2004’s They’re Only Chasing Safety and 2006’s Define the Great Line, eventually going on hiatus for a few years at the start of the 2010s, but returning a decade ago for a triumphant reunion.
Covering three very distinct subgenres of their era, and all remaining some of the best and most dependable bands of their respective scenes, this bill is a must-see for any 2000s rock fan of a certain age, and we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan!
