One of the coolest, and undoubtedly the most fun, bands to come out of the local independent rock scene in the 2020s, punk duo Snõõper formed five years ago, initially just as a home recording project between vocalist and visual artist Blair Tramel and guitarist Connor Cummins, during the pandemic lockdown. Early singles captured the attention of Nashville’s DIY scene though, and soon Snõõper began performing around town, rounding out their live lineup with bassist Happy Haugen, drummer Brad Barteau, and guitarist Conner Sullivan. Adopting a scrappy, frenetic, lo-fi, and pop-accessible punk sound (which sometimes gets labeled “egg punk”), and boasting a wild and exhilarating live show complete with props and puppets, Snõõper picked up momentum faster than they ever could have anticipated, and by debut album Super Snõõper, released in 2023 by beloved local label Third Man, they had transcended the Nashville punk community, and were touring the world and receiving critical accolades from a wide swath of high-profile outlets.
Still a fixture in the local scene, Snõõper have continued to hone their live show and evolve their sound over the last few years, and found themselves working with a producer for the first time- the great John Congleton- earlier this year in Los Angeles, crafting what would become their upcoming sophomore LP, Worldwide (to the band, this feels more like a proper debut, as Super Snõõper was largely made up of re-recordings of previously released material). More focused and refined that their prior work, while still retaining that fun-loving and scrappy punk spirit and intensity that makes Snõõper so special, Worldwide is more personal, more melodic, and more mature than the band’s debut, and feels poised to help them reach an even wider audience, on the way to becoming Nashville’s next great breakout punk outfit, a la Bully or Be Your Own Pet. Slated to drop Oct. 3, again through Third Man, Snõõper will celebrate their latest record with a hometown release show that same night at Eastside Bowl, with support from two other great local favorites: punk trio massie99 and alt/shoegaze outfit Pressure Heaven.
