When last we updated you about resident local rocker and beloved Paramore singer Hayley Williams, at the end of July, she’d just surprise-released a batch of 17 new songs, which, initially, were mysteriously presented as standalone singles for fans to discover and experience in whatever order they chose. Soon after hitting streaming services, and being subject to many a playlist, the songs were officially sequenced and announced as an album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, Williams’ third as a solo artist, following 2020’s Petals for Armor and 2021’s FLOWERS for VASES / descansos. Ego Death was officially reorganized on streaming as an album in late August, along with an 18th track, “Parachute,” with vinyl pre-orders indicating a placeholder for two further songs (19th song “Good Ol’ Days” arrived in late October, and 20th song and album closer “Showbiz” hit streaming today, to coincide with the vinyl release).
In addition to the album- one of our favorite records of the year (let’s be real; of the 2020s) and one of the most earnest, inspired, and captivating Williams has ever released with any project- it’s been an incredibly eventful few months for Nashville resident. She’s released multiple music videos and live videos for Ego Death (watch a few below), dropped new merch and hosted listening parties, made a profound appearance on The Tonight Show, teamed up once again with the legendary David Byrne for a couple of new tunes (and also took part in a two-part conversation with the Talking Heads icon, and made a surprise appearance at his New York show last month), featured on a new single with indie singer Jay Som, graced the cover of Rolling Stone for a great Musicians on Musicians interview with Jack Antonoff (and performed at a live event in celebration), announced a candid photo book with longtime collaborator Phoenix Johnson, and probably numerous other exciting happenings, releases, and announcements we’re overlooking.
In short: it’s been a Hayley Williams summer and fall, and it’s looking like that energy is rolling right on for Hayley Williams winter and spring. Just announced today, Williams has scored four Grammy nominations for the 68th annual awards: Best Rock Performance, for “Mirtazapine,” Best Rock Song, for “Glum” (a nomination or both Hayley and her producer and co-writer, Daniel James), Best Alternative Music Performance, for “Parachute,” and Best Alternative Music Album, for Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party. And as if those prestigious nominations, coinciding with the vinyl release of Ego Death and digital release of “Showbiz” weren’t enough for one day, Williams also just “leaked” dates for her debut solo tour, which she had previously teased, posting a screenshot in the Trash folder of her retro-themed website, of a full announcement labeled “oops.” And, as expected, and after previously having to cancel a planned run in 2020, which would’ve seen her play Brooklyn Bowl, the North American and European spring and summer trek is taking place at intimate venues, and will feature three hometown shows at The Ryman Auditorium next year, April 25, 27, & 28 (see a full list of North American dates below).
Water from Your Eyes are listed as support, and the leaked flyer advises visiting Hayley’s site for tickets and news. We expected more concrete ticket info soon (and likely some sort of pre-sale signup), when the formal announcement arrives (similar to the album rollout), and we’ll update this post when we know more. Until then, grab Ego Death on vinyl online or at your local record store, and stream all 20 tracks now!
UPDATE: The official tour announcement has arrived, with ticket details. In an effort to keep ticket prices low and to mitigate scalping, Williams is using Openstage for a verified presale, which requires fans to validate both an email address and phone number to register for a code, between 9 a.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 10 and 9 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 11 (the code will give fans a chance to buy tickets, but does not guarantee tickets). There is no guarantee tickets will be available outside of the presale (if there are, they’d be made available in a general on-sale), so anyone look for tickets is encouraged to sign up here ASAP. You can only register once, and attempting to sign up with multiple emails will get your entry voided. Fans will receive a unique “ticket unlock code” by 9 a.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 13, and the pre-sale will began on Friday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. CT. Additionally, in order to combat scalping, ticket transfers will be turned off, and an official face-value ticket exchange will be established.
UPDATE 2: Due to overwhelming demand, Williams has expanded her tour to include additional dates and extra nights in nearly every city, including another Ryman show, on April 28 (view the updated list of North American dates below). Additionally, pre-sale registration has been extended to 6 p.m. CT on Nov. 11. If you’ve already singed up for the Nashville pre-sale, you’ll have access to the new date automatically, and don’t need to take any further action.
