Though officially formed in 2018, the duo that make up local rock project The Criticals– Parker Forbes and Cole Shugart- had been friends for many years prior, forging a musical band as part of Nashville’s DIY rock scene. Citing classic influences like David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and The Stone Roses, plus more contemporary acts like The Strokes, The Libertines, Kings of Leon, The 1975, and Fontaines D.C., The Criticals harbor a frenetic, era and genre-bending style of pop rock, indie, and alt rock and bridges the retro and modern, a style echoed perfectly in their visual aesthetic as well. Since springing onto the local scene with their debut EP, Mimosa Hygiene, in 2019, and swiftly following that up with a longer project, Sour Grapes, the following year, The Criticals have become an essential fixture in Nashville rock, wowing fans in Music City and beyond with their energetic, electrifying live show. Several more EPs and a lot of great singles have followed, with the pair’s sound becoming even more polished, as has a lot of touring, including appearances at major fests like Lollapalooza and Shaky Knees.

Most recently though, the buzzworthy up and comers have released their long-awaited, self-titled debut full-length, The Criticals, boasting their best, catchiest, and most powerful group of songs yet, leaving them poised more than ever to become Nashville’s next big breakout rock and roll success story. In celebration, and on the heels of a nationwide tour, The Criticals return home to celebrate their new LP with a release show Nov. 20 at Exit/In! Alt pop trio VEAUX– another No Country favorite and important fixture in the local indie scene- will open, and tickets are still available right here.
