David Byrne to Play Ascend Amphitheater May 9

Legendary musician, visual artist, filmmaker, and writer David Byrne is, without a doubt, one of the most important fixtures in musical history, from his career with groundbreaking, legendary new wave and post-punk outfit Talking Heads, to his flourishing, multifaceted musical and artistic endeavors since the group’s split almost 35 years ago. Unlike so many of his musical peers, Bryne has never been one to rest on his legacy, continuously innovating, collaborating with contemporary artists, and staying fresh, connected, curious, and endlessly creative, even into his 70s.

Though, certainly, Byrne has never faded from relevance, the last decade or so has been especially prolific, from a 2012 collaboration with St. Vincent, to renewed activity (though not a full-on reunion; which still seems unlikely) with his former Talking Heads bandmates (a re-release of their iconic Stop Making Sense, interviews, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction), to collaborations with Nashville’s own Paramore and Hayley Williams, to festival appearances, to spots on SNL and Tiny Desk, and more. Perhaps most notable in recent years was his last album, 2018’s American Utopia, which attracted critical acclaim and spawned a captivating and unique live show, which was later transformed into a Broadway production, and filmed for an HBO special by Spike Lee.

After that whirlwind of a last record cycle (and plenty of collaborations and one-off releases in between), David is back with a new record- his first in seven years- Who Is the Sky?, featuring New York orchestral ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra, and produced by Kid Harpoon, with guest appearances from St. Vincent, Hayley Williams, and Tom Skinner. After an initial run of dates in support, Byrne has expanded his world tour throughout 2026, with a new run of North American shows throughout the spring and summer, returning to him Nashville for the first time in eight years, May 9 at Ascend Amphitheater!

Byrne’s largest solo Nashville show to date, after many outings at The Ryman over the years, tickets are set to go on sale this Friday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. CST right here. Fans can also sign up for an exclusive pre-sale here, which runs from Dec. 9-11. Finally, if you can’t wait until May, David was previously announced for this years Big Ears Festival in Knoxville in March, where he’ll play two nights which are separately ticketed from the fest. Hear new single “T Shirt,” coproduced by long-time collaborator Brian Eno, and check out a full list of tour dates below!
