Out in support of their recent fifth album, Reflections, Pennsylvania nu metal and rap metal outfit From Ashes to New returned to The Basement East this week for a high-energy, electrifying, and communal performance for a sold out crowd!

Opener Elijah perfectly set the tone with his moody, intense fusion of alt rock, dark pop, metal, and scremo, firing up the crowd and providing a perfect sonic complement to From Ashes to New.

Part of the nu metal revivalist trend of 2010s, From Ashes to New are both a callback to the genre’s late ’90s and early ’00s heyday, and also a thoroughly modern tonal update, which they’ve perfect across ten years and five albums. The rockers have also forged a powerful live show over the years, helmed by co-voclalists Matt Brandyberry and Danny Case, who have incredible chemistry and stage presence in concert. Well-suited to an intimate space like The Basement East, FAtN delivered a frentic, engaging, and intense live show, with dazzling production and some theatricality (such as bassist Jimmy Bennett changing masks between songs). Unlike the nu metal bands of decades past though, which could sometimes delve into negativity and toxicity, From Ashes to New go out of their way to spread positivty and create community, checking in on and looking after their fans throughout the show. In all, the band’s latest show in Music City was a welcome return, and their live show has never sounded better. Check out our photos from contributor Madison McDermott above and below!
