Show of the week: Sharon Van Etten at Mercy Lounge

Risen indie star, Sharon Van Etten, is playing a show at Mercy Lounge on Thursday night.   Her most recent release, Tramp, is the reason that she is now the risen star.  This record showcases an artist in full control of her powers. Tramp contains as much of her striking rock voice with “Serpents” or “Ask” while portraying the minimalist beauty of “All I Can” or “Joke or a Lie”.   The record was produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner; and, with contributions from Matt Barrick (Walkmen), Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), Zach Condon (Beirut), Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak), Julianna Barwick,  Dessner himself add a glowing sheen to the already substantial offering.  You can listen to the track “Serpents” from her release below, or you can watch her perform it on Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Show here.

While I typically write these things up on the day of, I decided this was a great enough show to give you an extra day to plan.  Why the kicker, per se, you also have Jenn Wasner’s (of Wye Oak) project, Flock of Dimes, opening things up.  I saw Wye Oak last fall at The Basement, and she is incredible.  Here are a couple of songs from Flock Of Dimes below.  Head over to Mercy’s website to grab your tickets in advance for this one.  Don’t miss it… get out and see some live music.
