Legendary actor and comedian Bill Murray is certainly a man who needs no introduction, from his early days as a pioneering cast member on Saturday Night Live in the ’70s, to starring into some of the most iconic comedy films of all time in the ’80s and ’90s, to becoming something of an indie drama darling in the late ’90s and ’00s. Known for his eccentric, folksy style, Murray became both a meme and an endearing figure to millennials over the last couple of decades, developing a reputation for randomly showing up at parties, weddings, sporting events, college campuses, etc, seemingly living life to the beat of his own drum, and has explored ventures outside of acting like being a restauranteur, sports ownership (and fandom), and, of course, a lifelong passion for music (which has manifested both on and off screen).
Though if you look for Murray’s music on streaming, you’ll mainly find 2017 album New Worlds, a collaboration with classical cellist Jan Vogler, on which Bill sings and recites poetry, or songs from film soundtracks he’s been a part of, like The Jungle Book and Rock the Kasbah, lately, Murray has been performing live with group Billy Murray & His Blood Brothers, a collaboration with Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia, who, without Murray, helm the blues rock band Blood Brothers (not to be confused with famed post-hardcore band The Blood Brothers). A collaboration which first came together last year, the group (which is rounded out by some great backing players) embarked on a handful of tour dates earlier this year, and are currently in the midst of a larger run throughout the full and winter, bringing them to Nashville for the first time tonight, Oct. 22 at The Ryman Auditorium!
Though the Blood Brothers themselves do have original music (check out 2023 album Blood Brothers for a taste), with Murray, they are ostensibly a cover band, tackling classic rock and blues rock covers from the likes of The Kinks, Prince, Bob Dylan, Derek and the Dominos, The Beatles, and Stephen Stills. So, if you’re into seeing one of the most iconic actors in history tackle some of the most famous songs in history, tickets to Billy Murray & His Blood Brothers are still available right here! There’s no opener listed, so make sure you’re punctual.
Bill Murray & His Blood Brothers perform tonight, Oct. 22 at The Ryman Auditorium. The show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m., and tickets are available for $37.65-93.97.
