Regular session player at Third Man and Black Belles chanteuse Olivia Jean has announced she’s releasing her first ever solo album on the label October 14, finally stepping into the spotlight on her own after playing on both of Jack White’s solo albums, Karen Elson’s record, and Wanda Jackson’s recent album on the label as well as in the all-girl goth rock band The Black Belles and a slew of the label’s Blue Series records. The album is titled Bathtub Love Killings, after a serial killer Jean read about from the 1800s who drowned three girls in his bathtub, and given the talent behind it is likely to be as delightfully macabre as its title. Third Man is promising a limited edition lavender vinyl, for all you record collectors, and Bathtub Love Killings will be available in all other formats as well. Jean wrote all the songs on Bathtub Love Killings and plays most of the instruments, too, showing off the talent that made her stand out to Jack White when she handed out demos of her solo surf guitar music after a Dead Weather gig in her hometown of Detroit. Since then Jean has been a regular on a variety of Third Man projects and played on both of White’s solo albums. Her story is enough to make any aspiring musician, Third Man fan, or wanna-be Jack White groupie froth at the mouth in jealousy, but the talented lady has worked hard enough to deserve it. I would just like to say to the writer of this article that no musician or fan or wanna be as you so disrepectfully call us are frothing at the mouth with jealousy over this completely untalented girl. The majority of Jack White fans dislike her because everyone knows exactly how she got her record deal with Third Man and that was by putting out for Jack White. There is no jealousy. I think fans were really appauled that she would play in Karen Elson’s band and then do her husband right in front of her. I guess she she was smart that she used sex to get herself a recording deal but she really can’t be surprised that she is not being respected. Just because fans love Jack White doesn’t mean they will automatically love her. Insulting Jack’s fans in your article will not exactly get them to love her or buy her record.

So nobody is allowed to comment unless they are praising this girl? I noticed on the Third Man video that comments are being deleted left and right. I think that goes to show how weak this girl’s music ability is. I disagree with you and the author. Jack White has supported lots of female musicians. His ex wife Karen Elson put out on album that seemed to be well received. He toured with an all female band that seemed to get great reaction from the fans. Alison Mosshart who is the lead singer of his band The Dead Weather and who he is more romantically linked to than Olivia Jean seems to be the most popular of all the female musicians. If jealousy was an issue then these girls would be getting the same reaction. But they do not. Could it be that fans just really don’t like Olivia Jean or her music? I respect the fact that you are a fan of hers. But I think you and Linda and others here need to also repect the opionions of other even if they do not share the same opinion as you.
Yes, people can comment either way. But you are commenting soley due to the fact that you have a personal issue with this woman. You have been spreading vicious gossip on multiple websites under various names. However, your comments are unoriginal…and some of them copy and pasted, so it’s not difficult to figure out that it’s all you.

You mention that Jack White’s fans don’t like Olivia Markel or her music. So what? Just because you are a Jack White fan, does that mean you must also be a fan of every artist signed to Third Man? Of course not. I’m not. I like Jack White, but just because he endorses this person or that one, I still use my own judgement. You should make up your own mind instead of getting angry. He has the right to promote anybody he likes.

This girl is like a goth spice girl. It more like Jack White and Third Man Records present Creepy Spice. I watched the video and was completely creeped out that this weird chick thinks girls being murdered in a bathtub is something cool. Her music and singing are really weak and her looks are quite average. I think I will pass on this album.

But looks should have nothing to do with whether you choose to buy and album or not. People will argue if her affair with Jack is really what got her the record deal. Even if that were true if she had real talent it wouldn’t matter. Her talent would rise above the rumors. Sadly the talent isn’t there. The comment I agree with most on this thread is Frisco’s comment below. Her music does sound juvenile and to base her cd around murders of three women by a serial killer is neither cool or edgy. While I don’t think it’s fair to group all men into one box since everybody has differing tastes/preferences, this “John” GIRL (actually woman, though she acts like a girl) *does* have a strangely personal vendetta against Olivia, and she’s undoubtedly the same one who has been posting under different names on multiple Olivia articles. “Goth Spice Girls” was the tagline for her gossipy Tumblr that she dedicated to all things anti-Black Belles but mostly anti-Olivia. She is very obsessed with Jack White and constantly needs to be “in the know” about Jack’s whereabouts and the details of his personal life. She’s also a member of two White Stripes forums, but she keeps her hatred for Olivia more well-hidden, probably because she doesn’t want the other adults there to know how immature she is.
I was kind of shocked when I read your post. To dedicate a tumblr site to someone you don’t like is an awful lot of time to spend on someone you don’t like. Maybe this girl should find some more positive things to focus on. But this is not a bad reflection of Olivia. It does say a lot about the person who wastes their time doing these things. I also think now there is a fair amount of trolling going on these threads. People copying and pasting quotes both positive and negative from one site to another because they think they are being funny. The reason I say this is because I was reading comments on one page and someone posted with a really unusual screen name. On one page they are ripping Olivia apart and on another site they are praising her as the greatest thing in music. I think this is a bunch of stupid teenagers thinking they are being funny or some really immature people trying to stir the pot. I think Third Man and Olivia should take these comments with a grain of salt. I don’t think that you should let yourself get upset by them either.

It’s not a lot of people..it’s one female. She’s had issues with Olivia Jean for years, because she is obsessed with Jack White. She has managed to put several dozens of comments on multiple websites (under male and female names) trashing this woman, for no other reason than jealousy.
She must be unemployed, because as well as having the time to do all of this, she also created a hate website a few years back dedicated to Olivia’s band at the time.

Where is the anti Black Belles or Anti Olivia Jean tumblr site everyone is talking about? I tried looking for it but I don’t see it. Also I’m not so sure it’s just one person posting everything. I saw on the Third Man site quite a few of there members commenting that they were very unhappy or disappointed that Olivia Jean is opening for Jack on his tour.
