Though she played a couple of huge shows last year, opening for Halsey at Ascend Amphitheater and mgk at Bridgestone Arena, it’s been several years since earnest indie and alt pop singer Julia Wolf last headlined in Nashville. That recently changed, though, as the acclaimed singer- still out in support of last year’s great sophomore album PRESSURE– recently played a sold-out show at Eastside Bowl!
Kicking off the show, Texas rocker Bee Blackwell proved to be a perfect opener, showcasing a sound a little more retro rock-rooted than Julia’s, channeling ’90s alternative, soaring emo, and grungy riffs, bound with introspective lyrics and haunting vocals. Blackwell and her band were confident and compelling, and seemed to win over the crowd right away. Her all-too-brief performance left us wanting more, and we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for her Bee’s return.

Given the huge artists she’s been sharing the stage with in recent years, this should come as no surprise, but Julia Wolf’s live show has become even more captivating since her last Nashville headliner three years ago, and her stage presence is as mesmerizing as ever. We’re several years post-TikTok virality for a whole crop of artists now, and that has proven which ones were just a trendy flash in the pan and which have genuine talent and long-term staying power, and Wolf most definitely falls into the latter category, proving herself across two great albums and an introductory EP, earning acclaim for her genre-bending sound and energetic, gritty live show, and even dropping a song with Drake. Performing a set mostly made up of songs from PRESSURE, Wolf’s dark pop and driving alt rock sounded even better live than in recording, and the crowd absolutely mirrored her energy and passion perfectly.
