Wheatus Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Debut Album at Murfreesboro’s Hop Springs Tonight, Oct. 17

Formed 30 years ago in New York, by frontman and only constant member Brendan B. Brown, alt rock and pop rock outfit Wheatus shot to fame with their eponymous debut album, Wheatus, in 2000, propelled by enduring, mega-hit single “Teenage Dirtbag.” Remaining prolific throughout the 2000s, the group- whose sound has lot more range and nuance that you’d except if you only know their hits- released another major label effort, Hand Over Your Loved Ones, in 2003, before parting ways with Sony, opting to go independent beginning with 2005 third album Too Soon Monsoon. The rockers would drop two more full-lengths, Pop, Songs & Death (initially released as two EPs) in 2012 and The Valentine LP in 2013, to kick off the 2010s, but haven’t made a record since, teasing, on a few occasions, work on new material, which has only so far materialized in the form of singles, re-recordings, and a Christmas EP.

Seemingly rediscovered by a new generation of fans every few years, whether though a prominent artist tackling a cover of “Teenage Dirtbag” (everyone from One Direction to Ruston Kelly to Phoebe Bridgers has taken a crack) or through viral attention on platforms like TikTok, Wheatus remain one of the most beloved and nostalgic acts of the 2000s, and have made a point to celebrate milestones, like releasing an expanded anniversary edition of Wheatus in 2020. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, the group are once again on the road in honor of their debut, performing it in full on tour, a run which returns them to the area tonight, Oct. 17 at Hop Springs in nearby Murfreesboro, along with local indie country rocker Drumming Bird. If you’re up for a short road trip for a whole lot of nostalgia, tickets are still available right here.

Wheatus and Drumming Bird perform tonight, Oct. 17 at Hop Springs in Murfreesboro. The show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $32.25.
