Initially formed for a one-off gig at community music fest Girlschool LA by Eloise Wong, her cousins, sisters Lucia and Mila de la Garza, and their friend Bela Salazar, all then between the ages of just 8 and 14 years old, LA punk, pop punk, and riot grrrl outfit The Linda Lindas earned some prominent early fans like Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna and comedian Amy Poehler, leading to some early opportunities and song placements, which helped them gain some traction at that astonishingly young age, and prompted them to make the band a more serious focus. A video of the band performing their single “Racist, Sexist Boy” went viral in 2021, and introduced them to a wider audience, leading to more high-profile co-signs, a TV debut on Kimmel, and a record deal with esteemed punk label Epitaph, ahead of debut album, Growing Up, in 2022.
Tenacious and talented- and only now just 16-22 years old, the band have spent the last few years becoming a lauded fixture of modern feminist punk, touring the world, winning awards, appearing at prominent fests like Coachella, landing songs in film and TV soundtracks, and performing with legends like The Rolling Stones and Green Day (and also supporting some beloved Nashville artists on the road, like Paramore and Be Your Own Pet). 2024 sophomore LP No Obligation was a more mature and adventurous musical evolution (when the band first formed, most of the girls were still learning their instruments), and their latest, major label debut GOTTA GET OUT, is the quartet’s best and boldest yet, exploring even more genre influence like ’80s new wave, and featuring a guest appearance from Hayley Williams!
In support of their latest, The Linda Lindas bring their Gotta Get Out Tour to The Basement East tonight, Oct. 19! That alone would be worth the cost of admission (get tickets here), but sweetening the deal is some stellar local support, from Grace Bowers (who’s out on the road with the band for some other southern dates as well) and Tayls!
